Tuul Riverside Lodge

Since May 2003 Nomads has been operating a small camp, which moves as the nomads move up and down the Tuul River Valley. Every late May we move to a secluded summer camp on the southern bank of the river. In autumn we will move back to the north bank of the Tuul River. This is just one short drive from the city center.

This camp is also a popular destination for travelers during spring and autumn. It is ideal for short stopovers as well as extensions, for the expatriate community here and for anybody who likes to ride and relax.

Approximately 35km (20 miles) east of Ulaanbaatar in the heartland of the Baga Khentii Mountains and south of the mighty Tuul River, is home to a beautiful location rich in natural beauty. Here you will have the opportunity to observe and explore a genuine nomadic environment with your trained guide.

In the morning you will have time to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. There are a lot of mountain flowers, especially edelweiss, and you can spend the morning hiking or riding alone through forested hillsides amongst beautiful streams with crystal flowing waters.

Every afternoon, there will be an organized trek on horseback for three or four hours. Nomadic horseman will accompany you to places of interest.

Each day of the week new geographic and cultural discoveries await you, and you will begin to genuinely absorb and experience the ways of the nomadic people.

In this charming wilderness a small tented camp has been established away from the tourist routes. This spot would be ideal for families with children or people with limited time. These nature focused trips could be yours in just a short one hour drive from the bustling city.

The camp consists of twelve standard gers, two delux gers, one luxurious Kazak style ger, and one luxury family ger. Occupancy is on a single, twin or family basis. All the gers are authentically decorated to a high standard and provide exquisite views of the hills and river valley in the near distance. In addition to this, all gers are en suite and boast running hot and cold water, a shower unit, and a western style flush toilet. The gers also benefit from electricity supplied from solar power panels. There is also a back up generator if needed. On chilly evenings a roaring fire casts flickering shadows around the inside of the ger which sends you into a peaceful sleep. www.tuulriverside.com
